Tv-ism

*M*  says that quote was too easy and apart her nobody else knew who the quote was from. It's a Tracy Chapman. Songs are too easy anyway, I have another idea. A great one.

Here's how it goes. Am going to write the first paragraph for a story. The first one to comment writes the paragraph which follows and so on. I should be getting less than 10 paragraphs including the Intro and Conclusion from the which is about the number of persons who comment on my blog (I love you!!!)!
 Intro:

Laila stuck her thumb in her mouth and started sucking furiously, her eyes wide with fear. She wanted her mummy. She started to sob but stopped herself. She must not. They must not hear her. They had taken her mummy. But why had Daddy been laughing? Tired, she fell asleep.
.......

Suley's Norris v/s Swayze's post reminded me of Niger. TV in Niger. I notice i write a lot about what I'd seen on TV and am surprised. Am not much of a TV person....

It's Norris who brought back the memories. I started to laugh out hard reminiscing.

When we lived in Niger (6 years from 1985 to 1990) we first didn't own a TV.

My father things watching TV is a waste of time. My mum insisted for us to have one because when we went to school and dad to work she had nothing to do and felt bored. After 2 tvless years Dad relented and we got the TV.

Poor mum, it was no use. Everything being in French, houssa and zarma and she understanding only Arabic had trouble with the TV. Now that I think of it it was hilarious really. Mum had trouble understanding and we had trouble watching since there was close to nothing to watch.

The TV programs started at 5 pm. before 5 pm no TV. No nothing. the screen is blank when you switch it on. No, not blank, you got these:

TV starts with the national anthem which is quite long. On mondays after the national anthem and the news you go to bed cause ther's no movie. The politics come and make speeches. Mum would ask "whose this man", I'd say "this is the Prime Minister of Niger. They had no Ministers before him, he's the first one to be appointed minister that's why they call him "Prime" Minister."

I was smart.

Tuesdays after the news the movie was actually not a movie but an episode of a Brazilian serial called "Mademoiselle". It run about 35 minutes then off we were sent to bed.

Wednesday was great. after the national anthem they run cartoons. "Tom and Jerry", "Pif et Hercule" (A Dog and Cat version of Tom and Jerry), "Tortues Ninja" (Ninja Tortoises), "Michel Vaillant" (A car racing cartoon). This was run for about an hour and after that there was nothing else to see.

Thursdays they run an episode of the American serial called "Dynasty" (the French version) starring (I believe) Joan Collins. I loved this one only Mum thought it wasn't for our age so we were sent to bed or homework.

Fridays i don't remember. Nothing interesting am sure.

Saturdays was cool cause there was a musical Show called "Le Show du Samedi Soir" - the Saturday Night Show. I loved it. The presenter's name was Mustapha. I thought he was cool till my father's friend daughter told me he had 3 wives. I was mad. I wanted to marry him.

Sundays i don't recall. Nothing interesting am sure, like Fridays.

We had one Chanel only and Tv ended at 10.30 and 11.00 pm sharp. After that time you got these:

1 - Guess I'm not missing all that much by rarely watching TV anyway. :)

Oh yeah, I *finally* bought a postcard stamp for you! Can you believe it! Now I have to think of something fun/funny to send to you. What shall it be... (Comment this)

2 - That quote sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't know it.

I can't see the images. I can only see the map of Niger. I guess those are color bars?

Those are basically the same programs that came on over here when I was a kid. I watched Ninja Turtles a whooole lot. There's a show called "Sabado Gigante" on the Univision channel. I can't understand much of it, but it's sometimes fun to watch on Saturdays.

3 - I'd love to watch TV shows from around the world. I wish there was a free cable channel that just showed various international TV (there are a couple of pay ones). Here in the U.S., we only get to see American shows, sometimes British (and of course Spanish shows for the Spanish population). (Comment this)
